This time of year I crave fresh and green, but raw foods can be quite intense on the system, especially in the cooler months, so I try to stick to warm and warming foods in Winter. Now that we are creeping up on Spring, I have the urge to incorporate some fresh, green smoothies back into my routine. This one is easy, not really sweet and great for cleansing the body during this transitionary season. I'd suggest this snack a couple times a week, not everyday, and make sure to incorporate lots of protein and healthy fats if it's going to be a light meal replacement.
1 Green Apple
2 Celery Sticks
2 Big Handfuls of Spinach
Thumb size piece of ginger, minced
Small Handful fresh Parsley
1 tsp of Chlorella or Spirulina
2 Tbs of Hemp or preferred protein
3 Tbs of Lemon Juice
1 cup of Water
Wash produce well and chop to fit in your blender. Add greens and water first and then pile on the rest of the ingredients and Blend. This makes quite a bit so drink right away, share with others, or save leftovers in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 48 hours.
